The ZeroHero Scholarship Program for Touring Artists
As up and coming artists prepare for their first national tour on the road, considerations around being sustainable are often left out. With hundreds of details to consider, this is not a surprise, even when the artist has a deep and sincere commitment to environmental protection. This oversight typically relates to a lack of money, time, and/or the resources to execute simple steps that can reduce the environmental impact of any tour while on the road.

The Fresh Greens for Fresh Artists program is designed to help new touring artists overcome the challenges that relate to money, time, and resources. The ZeroHero Scholarship Program will allow selected artists a chance to “green their tour” though the following strategies:

Fueling their tour bus and production trucks with high-quality biodiesel, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 78% and other emissions by as much as 99%.
Utilizing compostable products on their tours, including plates, cups, utensils, etc., and processing this “waste” at a certified compost facility anywhere in the US.
Purchasing carbon credits to offset any remaining carbon footprint associated with their tour, their concerts, or the overall production effort.
Developing educational materials to raise awareness about sustainability initiatives.

This is a great opportunity for artists to take an active role in supporting more sustainable choices in their industry and become an advocate and leader though every day practices. ZeroHero and Sundawg Records will share success stories though web updates and blogs, while helping the artists share their stories from the road.

Artists will be awarded scholarships though an application process and selected based on the strength of their application, namely the artists’ commitment and potential for leadership and advocacy in the industry. The first awards will be announced August 1, 2009.
